When I was at school one day when I was 14 - that's 33 years ago, I got very sick with nausea and terrible pain in my head. I thought I was going to die! I went to the doctor who said that it was a migraine and he gave me some pain killers that made no difference. When I got home, my mum sadly explained that she had suffered from them since puberty, as had her sister. It seemed that I might just have to "put up with it".
The migraines continued every 2 to 4 weeks from then on until recently and sometimes at very inconvenient times like in the middle of a family celebration - I'd need to tell my wife, Lesley, that "I have visual disturbances" and we'd need to get me home and get me to bed asap.
I avoided things that seemed like triggers such as chocolate (Easter wasn't much fun!) and meditation helped me deal with the pain but it always felt like I was living "on the edge".
Then 10 months ago, Helen and Ian Belcher sent Lesley and I some Max... To be honest, I hadn't even been thinking about it helping my migraine since Helen talked about her experiences such as more energy, better sleep etc. Or maybe I'd just given up hope on finding a solution.
I didn't notice much in the first couple of weeks and it was only when we got in to the second month that I started noticing that I was still getting visual disturbances, but no pain following. And by about month three, I wasn't getting either - and since then I've only had a couple of odd times when I've had minor visual disturbances - but no pain - it almost feels as if the Max "goes into bat" when needed to fight - and defeat - the inflammation.
Now both Lesley and I can relax, knowing that I can always participate in the important things in life and not worry about being interrupted by my migraines. Not only that, but I now know that both my 15 year old son (who also had been his first migraine at age 14) and 12 year old daughter won't have to suffer for 32 years like I did.
I wouldn't be without my Max everyday
